As a gaming texture and material artist, I’m constantly fascinated by how digital tools allow us to recreate the essence of touch in a world that can’t be touched. Through techniques like normal mapping, displacement, and PBR (physically based rendering), we can simulate how light interacts with surfaces — creating illusions of roughness, softness, or shine.
Yet, despite the precision, the soul of texture remains the same: it’s about evoking a response. A weathered wall in a digital scene can feel nostalgic; a reflective metal surface can feel futuristic. Even in virtual spaces, texture gives emotion a form.
